Two new Alfa Romeo Mitos equipped with the Fiat Group's new range of clever 'Multiair' engines go on sale in the UK this spring, including the
new range-topping 168bhp Mito Quadrifoglio Verde
The 133bhp version of the turbocharged 1.4-litre engine comes in at £15,165, while the 168bhp Quadrifoglio Verde (whose 122bhp per litre gives it the highest-ever specific output for a production Alfa) costs £17,895.
The Mitos are the first cars in the Fiat Group to get the trick engines, which employ electro-hydraulically activated variable valve technology and do away with throttle butterflies.
The result, says Alfa, is that a Multiair-equipped car is around 10 per cent more powerful than an equivalent engine without the new technology, while also being more fuel-efficient and emissions-friendly.
For now the Mitos are the only cars to feature Multiair tech, but expect the engines to filter throughout the Fiat Group soon - and possibly even into Chryslers before too long.
