Specialist kit car maker Anteros has started sales of two new kits in the US today, which are both based on the C6 Chevrolet Corvette platform. Interestingly Anteros takes inspiration for its styling from a number of different areas, both new and old, and the result is not altogether unsuccessful.
Looks-wise, the designers say the cars draw ‘inspiration and DNA from the 1960s’ to create a car that harks back to the likes of Ferrari, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Austin and Maserati during that period. Throw in a dash of Spyker and a smidge of TVR and you have an interesting combination.
Also, while the Corvette’s LS2 V8 should offer a decent amount of grunt, Anteros will happily bolt on a Magnuson supercharger kit that boosts power to more than 600bhp. Combined to an optional performance exhaust system (15bhp), a cold air induction system (15bhp) and an upgraded mass air flow sensor (15bhp), maximum power for the Anteros range will be approaching almost 650bhp.
Without the ‘charger the LS2 is good for 400bhp in the Anteros XTM (Roadster), XTR (Hardtop) and XTS (Targa). The cars come with either a six-speed manual ‘box or four-speed auto.
The body is made from composite carbon fibre panels and sits on the Corvette’s standard hydroformed steel frame chassis. Some of the Corvette’s steel components have also been binned in favour of aluminium or mangnesium parts to make the car even lighter. All three variants also get a limited-slip differential, while luxury items such as the sat nav and heated seats are optional.
