Monster S1 quattro will be heading up the hill
Audi, which is celebrating its centenary this year, will be the featured marque at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. It has lined up a serious collection of racing cars spanning three quarters of a century for runs up Lord March’s hill.
The expected crowd of 145,000 visitors will be treated to the noise and motion of no fewer than 15 historic Audi rally and race cars on 3-5 July. The action will range from the 1938 Auto Union Type D driven by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason in the car’s final demonstration run before being retired from ‘active service’, right up to this year’s R15 TDI Le Mans car.

Another Auto Union Type D Dual Compressor from 1939 will join the Mason car, piloted by six-time Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx. Joining the R15 will be the whole gamut of factory Audi endurance prototypes, including the R8, R10 and short-lived R8R (the predecessor to the R8).
Audi’s touring and saloon-car history will be represented by the Audi A4 STC from 1996, the Audi V8 quattro DTM, the 1988 Audi 200 quattro TransAm and the Audi R8 LMS.
Audi’s iconic rally heritage will also be out in force, with rally legend Walter Rohrl reacquainting himself with the monstrous Audi Sport quattro S1 theat
