Boxster could get TTS power
An entry-level four-cylinder Porsche Boxster powered by an Audi engine could soon be on sale.
Reports circulating in the German press suggest that the 268bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre engine from the TTS and S3 will be fitted to a new Boxster range entry-model. The aim is to provide a much-needed boost in sales volume for Porsche, which has been struggling with mounting debts after an attempted takeover of the VW Group.
The TTS-engined roadster could be sold for around 40K Euros in continental Europe, making it more than 6K Euros cheaper than the current entry-level flat-six Boxster
Another option for Porsche is its own version of the VW BlueSport roadster, a spiritual successor to the Porsche 914. VW is keen to create spin-offs of the BlueSport roadster to get the volume needed to make the project profitable, but in-house VW brands Audi and Seat are current favourites to share that project.
Porsche has not yet made an official decision but, if it comes to fruition, an Audi-engined Boxster would be the first four-cylinder Porsche since the demise of the 968 in 1995.
