has reported that Audi's RS6 and R8 will lose its V10s in upcoming years. The news comes with the new R8 V10 still with showroom gloss on its tyre walls, but is in line with recent trends.
Audi's own S4 recently 'downsized' to a V6, and BMW have been talking about replacing V8s with its new turbocharged straight-six 'Twinpower' engines.
The M5 is soon to swap its own v10 for a twin-turbo V8, so the idea's not totally off the table, but the theme of downsized engines with forced aspiration seems to be spreading.
It's always going to be tough to sell engine downsizing to the more CC-hungry PHers, and the move away from natural aspiration won't please everyone, but if it helps us hang on to the sort of BHP that this new generation is upholding, it can't be a bad idea.
So how about it, then - a 4-cylinder XFR?
