In a list of the best looking touring cars ever produced, the E24-generation BMW 6 Series has to feature. Look at the JPS car that Jim Richards so famously campaigned, and this Maurer Group 2 car that's
still for sale on PH
- stunning, stunning cars.
Now a PHer is going ahead with an homage to those and many other fantastic 6 Series tin-tops with a track car project based on a 1983 635CSi. PHer 'e28525e' has quite the collection of classic BMWs - the username should give you a clue - and originally intended to give the Opal Green 6 Series "a respray and general tidy up." However, having discovered the car "was made entirely of filler and mastic", the plan was changed: now welded up underneath and with the rotten sound insulation removed, it's becoming a track car.
It's early days at the moment, but the car is stripped and the racing seat is in. E28525e's plans include a limited-slip diff, new suspension and adjustable anti-roll bars amongst much more, with the aim being to finish the car by the summer.
This 6 Series ticks so many PH boxes that it had to be our Reader's Car of the Week: we can't help but enjoy a track restoration project, we love to see a classic saved from ruin and we do rather enjoy an old BMW. So bravo e28525e for your commitment to the cause, and best of luck with your 6 Series renovation - we'll be following with interest!
