The Cheshire Cannonball launches today. Hosted by Brasingamens night club in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, it's a car tour across Europe -- the first for the county -- and takes place from 1 to 8 June 2005. It's a locally run and locally aimed hoon across Europe organised by The Really Special Events Company.
There's a limit of 50 cars for the event, with Ferraris, Porsches, DB9s and Jags already booked and, said the organisers, the likelihood of Hummers and Lamborghinis.
Many places have already been booked on the tour, reckon the organisers, with local participants and national celebrities destined for a demanding eight-day tour of Europe, with a two-night stopover in Marbella.
To help participants relax, there's a yacht party at Puerto Banus, Marbella on Saturday 4 June, which the Royal Group, co-sponsor of the Cannonball, said is only available to Cannonballers and guests joining them on a special weekend trip organised as part of the car tour.
Other en-route stops (for parties and perhaps the odd bit of rest) remain a secret, even from the hosts, Brasingamens, who said, “We’ll be going along for the ride and we want the excitement and anticipation just as much as anyone else!”
Participants can choose from a standard or VIP package designed to suit all budgets, said the organisers. Events include visiting venues and clubs across the continent with music "from top DJs and familiar faces."
Significant media interest is expected too and, as other national and international tours such as the Gumball Rally and Cannonball Europe, have had problems with local police, the organisers are warning participants are always advised to drive safely and carefully.
The tour organiser, the Really Special Events Company's Jan Harrison said, “I’m glad we limited the number of vehicles able to participate, otherwise I dread to think about the effect it would have on Alderley's traffic.”
The tour will leave Brasingamens on 1 of June, departures will be staggered to reduce the impact on the local traffic.
There are a limited number of places left on the tour – pop into Brasingamens in Alderley Edge or see below.
