Some of the worlds fastest and most sought after cars will parade through the streets of Birmingham today to kick off the start of The Classic Motor Show at the NEC and to raise funds for the Acorns Children’s Hospice. Marques such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ford GT40’s and Aston Martins will be taking part.
The parade was due to leave the square at 9.15am and will be waved off by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Michael Nangle. The procession will proceed to the NEC via the streets of the Birmingham and so there will be ample opportunity to see these cars in motion on Friday morning.
Those wishing to experience the thrill of riding in one of these cars that will be attending the Classic Motor Show can do so by making a £30-£90 contribution (depending on chosen vehicle) which is then donated to a range of children’s charities, including Birmingham’s Acorns Children’s Hospice. The Sporting Bears Club will be providing ‘Dream Rides’ to those attending the Classic Motor Show that wish to experience the ride of their life.
Dream Rides allows you to ride as a passenger in one of their fantastic range of cars in return for a donation to charity – and you get to choose the car. If you have a ‘need for speed’ then sample the ultimate buzz with an exhilarating spin in a Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Ford GT40, Porsche or Aston Martin. For a more sedate trip down memory lane, rekindling memories of long lost holidays and family outings, think Morris, The Rootes Group (producers of the Hillman and Sunbeam Alpine), Austin, Rover and Ford. But for those who like to feel the wind in their hair, the open road beckoning, and the sheer thrill of a classic sports car then MG, Triumph, Healey and Jaguars is the ride for you.
The ultimate classic experience, the Classic Motor Show has over a thousand classic cars on display as well as classic car dealers and trade stands. One of last year’s most popular areas, the ‘autojumble’ will also return with the largest indoor collection of new and used car parts, auto memorabilia, books and manuals, toys, models and rare motoring collectors items.
