Hot hatch drivers can pin their colours to the Vauxhall motorsport mast with a new pair of VXR models launched to celebrate victory in last year’s Touring Car Championship.
The Corsa and Astra VX Racing Editions will cost £17,425 and £21,445 respectively, and there will be a combined production run of just 888 cars – Vauxhall’s numerical tribute to Triple Eight Racing, the outfit responsible for building and prep of all the Luton firm’s VX racers.
The two new road car editions are offered in the VX Racing team colours of red and black, and are set apart from ‘boggo’ VXR models by tinted rear glass, black rear diffusers and black door mirrors. Gloss black alloy wheels – 18ins for the Corsa and 19ins for the Astra - also come as standard, as do full leather Recaro seats.
What you don’t get is any extra performance over regular VXR models, unless you want to buy an uprated exhaust, that is. Purchasers of the Astra VX Racing Edition will be offered the chance to pay £720 for an extra 20PS and the fruitier tail-pipe sound generated by a free-flowing Remus exhaust system that usually costs closer to a grand. Not terribly generous, but with the industry in its current desperate state there’s not much left in anybody’s promotion pot these days.
