Furious highways safety bosses at a council have blasted scrap metal thieves for putting lives at risk by stealing road signs in the area.
When signs have been nicked previously they have been replaced with new ones made from glass reinforced plastic and are clearly marked as having no scrap metal value.
Yet bungling thieves are still stealing the replacement signs - and then throwing them away when they realise they are not metal.
Doncaster Council says the majority of the thefts involve signs warning of sharp bends, junctions and level crossings.
The road signs are the latest in a series of items to attract the attention of metal thieves. Last month it was revealed that about 40 metal grids which sit over drains at the side of roads were stolen in Doncaster in just one week.
