Dodge president Ralph Gilles has revealed that the track-only Viper ACR-X (think of it as a Viper version of the
Ferrari 599XX
) has proved sufficiently popular to merit a possible second production run.
"The ACR-Xs are all spoken for at the moment, but we have the ability to make another batch," said Gilles at a recent Dodge event at Michigan's Gingerman Raceway. "There's quite a bit of interest in that batch, and that's part of the reason we're out here [at Gingerman Raceway] - to get the word out, because there's nothing out there quite like this car."
The ACR-X also gets its own one-make race series this year, the first time Vipers have been able to race entirely derestricted.
Gilles was less specific about the general future of the Viper, however. The current car is in its final run-out phase, but there's no word on when - or even if - a new Viper is coming. This despite the fact that, as Gilles pointed out, the Viper has had more US car magazine covers than any other car in history.
