Ohio State University researchers say they've found that eggshells can help produce hydrogen for fuel cells to run cars.
They claim to have mixed the gas with oxygen to create energy for running a vehicle. Instead of exhaust fumes, all that's emitted is water vapor.
The strength is the green credentials of the new claims - the current process for obtaining hydrogen produces carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.
But the team claim that they have found that when eggshells are added to the process, they absorb the carbon dioxide though the eggshells would need to be buried afterward to keep the gas out of the atmosphere.
