'70 is for wimps,' say left-ish beards...
Responses from the ‘anti’ camp to a proposed change to Britain's motorway speed limit from 70mph to 80mph have ranged from the ridiculous (‘a selfish move that will achieve nothing other than carnage’/Brake) to the sublime (‘The Saudi oil minister will be rubbing his hands with glee’/Greenpeace), but even Guardian readers appear to be lining up in favour of the change.
Yep, readers of the newspaper that’s popularly lampooned (Not by us, naturally! Ed) as the voice of the liberal ‘anti-car’ left were ranged roughly 60 percent in favour of, and only 40 percent against moving to a higher limit when we last looked at the newspaper’s online poll.
The measure has been put on the table by transport secretary Philip Hammond, and could come into effect by 2013. It’s being talked about here...
