If you thought yesterday’s Cayenne GTS was a bit tasteless try this for size. It’s the G-Power tuned BMW X5, complete with full body kit and underbody LED lighting.
The Typhoon performance pack adds 167bhp to the X5’s 350bhp 4.8-litre engine, providing more than enough poke for the average school run. The power increases come courtesy of a belt-driven supercharger, new carbon-fibre intake manifold, racing catalysts and aluminium intercooler.
G-Power has also gone to work on the ECU, replaced the fuel injectors with high flow units and swapped the standard exhaust for its own centrally-mounted set of 114mm twin pipes.
All those changes result in an improved 0-62mph time of 5sec, down by 1.3sec, and an increased top speed of 171mph, up from 150mph.
If you thought the extensive body kit was just for looks, think again. The flared wheel arches provide a vital role in allowing room for the enormous and completely necessary 23-inch alloys that are wrapped in 315/25 ZR 23 Michelin tyres. While the wide sills not only help channel airflow to help cool the brakes, but also house the blue LED lights that are activated by the Typhoon’s key. Ingenious.
Even that aggressive looking front apron proves useful, apparently reducing lift at the front axle, while the large vents help improve cooling to the blown engine.
Sadly G-Power doesn’t give a price for the Typhoon but this performance package has got to be a definite money-no-object upgrade, and one that no school-run mum should be without. Just think of the reaction from the PTA.
