Lotus has announced a series of updates for its Exige S coupe, including a re-styled front end and extra performance.
Power is up 20hp to 240bhp thanks largely to faster-flowing fuel injectors and an enlarged roof scoop that rams more air into the supercharger’s intercooler. Lotus says the latest Exige S will reach 62mph in 4.77 secs and top 145mph flat-out.
Body modifications include a revised nose with larger grille opening designed to improve airflow to the radiator. The intakes for the oil-coolers have also been enlarged, while new horizontal vanes bisecting these intakes are said to help stabilise airflow to further improve efficiency.
At the rear, an enlarged rear wing is situated 46mm higher and 61mm further back than on the outgoing model. The new arrangement – apparently based on the Exige GT3 road car concept from 2007 - is said to increase stability, reduce drag and maintain existing levels of downforce.
The new Exige S also features the launch control system from the GT3 racing program, allowing drivers to select engine rpm for standing starts as well as adjusting the level of traction control.
Sales of the new model will start in May this year.
