No big announcements from Jaguar at this year’s Geneva show, but we do have the
XFR-S
. And while it’s already made an appearance at the Detroit Show back in January, this is Europe’s first look at the car.
XFR-S and F-Type are the big draws at Jag
In the flesh – and even with that spoiler – it looks supremely menacing. It’ll get the same supercharged 5.0-litre V8 as the XFR, but uprated to produce 550hp. Torque, meanwhile, is a thumping 501lb ft, and as a result, the R-S will be able to hit 62mph in 4.4 seconds, before going on to an electronically-limited 186mph top speed.
Also on Jaguar’s stand this year is the new F-Type. As we reported earlier in the week, one of these stopped off at Jabbeke on the way down to attempt a high-speed run with Andy Wallace at the wheel, replicating Jaguar’s 1953 attempt, and pulling a 0-62 time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed just shy of 180mph in the process. Meanwhile, another F-Type was driven down with a “specialist in frugal driving” – yep, that’s a technical term – behind the wheel, who managed to achieve a faintly astonishing 35.6mpg on the 519-mile journey. Lots of fun stats there, then, and even now its undisguised looks are starting to become familiar, the rather lovely blue example slowly revolving on Jaguar’s stand proved that it’s losing none of its charm.
