850kgs, with Zetec power units planned
Ginetta has announced plans to launch its new G40, a fully road-legal racer that will make its competition debut on the 2010 Ginetta Junior Championship grid, supporting the BTCC.
Designed and engineered at Ginetta's Leeds factory, the new G40 will feature an 1800cc sealed Zetec engine, and has a proposed weight of 850kgs, so should be a hoot on the road as well as a capable racer.
According to the company, it will be elegible for entry into a variety of racing categories as well as the Ginetta Junior series. Key features are said to include a safety cage that's 50 times stronger than minimum FIA standards, front and rear crash zones and uprated side impact bars, and enough room inside for two people to sit comfortably.
"The G40 will be the most versatile racing car on the market. Not only will it be race-worthy at a variety of levels, perhaps even GT4, but it will also be enjoyable to drive on a recreational level," says company chairman Lawrence Tomlinson.
Ginetta aims to produce an initial batch of 26 G40s starting in January, with a price tag of £24,950.
