The Hummer road car brand is to be 'wound down' after talks between parent company GM and potential buyer Sichuan Tengzhong collapsed.
The deal between GM and Tengzhong reportedly collapsed because of problems convincing the Chinese government that Hummer's range could be made sufficiently environmentally friendly.
"We are disappointed that the deal with Tengzhong could not be completed," says John Smith, GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances. "GM will now work closely with Hummer employees, dealers and suppliers to wind down the business in an orderly and responsible manner."
GM warranties will be honoured, and the General will also continue to provide service support and spare parts.
The announcement comes barely 10 days after it was revealed that the military-spec Hummer - Andy McNab to the roadgoing Hummer range's Ross Kemp - would end production too after a final order of 2620 Humvees from the US army.
