General Motors has released a pair of intriguing track car concepts at the SEMA show in Las Vegas - the Chevrolet Camaro SSX and the Corvette Z06X.
The Camaro SSX is intended as a showcase for new Camaro performance parts, and features a carbon fibre front splitter and adjustable carbon rear wing, carbon fibre body panels, extra brake cooling and freer-breathing engine induction, and tweaked suspension and brakes. Chucking away plenty of sound deadening and removing the rear seats completes the track-car makeover.
Like the Camaro, the Corvette Z06X is a track-focused concept, intended to show customers what they can do with GM's catalogue of performance parts.
"Racing is an integral part of Corvette performance and technology," says Tadge Juechter, Corvette's chief engineer. "This concept car represents a mid-point between our GT race car and the production Z06, prepared by the team responsible for the Corvette Racing C6.R race cars"
The Z06X is based on the Corvette Z06 with the 1LZ equipment package, along with the Z07 Performance Package and CFZ Carbon Fiber Package. This creates the lightest production Corvette and includes carbon ceramic brakes and magnetic ride control.
Other modifications include an adjustable carbon fibre rear wing, a polycarbonate rear window, roll cage, racing seat and safety harness, racing wheels, adjustable coil-over suspension, and a racing-spec cooling system. The radio, carpeting and sound-deadening material are also removed.
Both cars are finished in a low-gloss 'Icy White Metallic' paint.
