Even the brand-new AMG SLS Gullwing hasn't got what it takes to make a splash at the Dubai motor show, it seems, so Merc has built a special one-off named the AMG 'Desert Gold'.
Perhaps surprisingly, the guys in the AMG paintshop have managed to keep the Desert Gold relatively tasteful - the bodywork has a matt finish, and the usually chromed bits have been painted black. The wheels feature a distinctly kerb-unfriendly painted gold rim.
While the car is supposedly a one-off, it's possible the Desert Gold finish could be made available as an optional extra via the AMG Performance Studio program. You've only got to ask...
Meanwhile, AMG has revealed another Dubai special in the shape of the G55 Kompressor 'Edition 79'.
Built to celebrate 30 years of the G-class (sales started in 1979), there will be a limited run of 79 vehicles featuring the matt grey from the AMG SLS options list, and various bits and pieces of carbon trim.
But frankly, if Desert Gold is going on the AMG options list anyway, we'll have our G55 painted in it too.
