For most Corvette ZR1 owners, a car capable of 7min 26sec Nurburgring laps is more than enough performance to satisfy the need for speed. For the select few who subscribe to the mantra of ‘too much horsepower is never enough’, however, Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) says it has something special in store next year - a 705bhp Z700 upgrade package for the 2010 ZR1.
705bhp 'Vette has engine and aero mods
Hennessey’s rationale is straightforward: ‘Porsche owners wanting the uber 911 can order the GT3 RS. Dodge Viper enthusiasts wanting the ultimate road race Viper have the ACR. Now ZR1 owners can opt for the Hennessey Z700 upgrade for their Corvettes,’ the company says. Makes perfect sense to us.
Hennessey’s Z700 performance package starts by upgrading the engine supercharger, exhaust and air induction systems, and is dyno-tuned to 705bhp (or even 755bhp if you're suitably barmy). Additional upgrades include lightweight carbonfibre wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres, which reduce rotating mass by nearly 60lbs. Hennessey’s Z-Aero carbonfibre front splitter, canards and rear spoiler also add over 300lbs of downforce helping to put the extra power onto the tarmac. Completing the Z700 upgrade package will be a revised interior with lightweight carbonfibre seats, Alcantara steering wheel and shift knob.
Chassis mods limited to new wheels and tyres
HPE plans to begin testing the Z700 at the Nurburgring in Germany later in 2009, the company press release states. Just 24 copies of this limited $207k edition Corvette ZR1 will be built (the price includes the base car), and each buyer will be offered a day of performance driving instruction in their new Z700 at Hennessey’s own private test track, Lonestar Motorsports Park in Texas. For an optional extra charge Hennessey will deliver the car to the 'Ring and give you the driving tuition there.
