Holden has unveiled an amazing concept car, the Efijy, at the Sydney motor show, which opens today. It's a combination of 1950s and 1930s design that revives the legend of the FJ.
The AUS$1.5 million (about £640,000) concept brings together gangster cars with Batmobile proportions, and is entirely about style rather than practicality.
Holden's boss Denny Mooney said the car Efijy was "all about fun, emotion and imagination, and shows what a bunch of clever and talented design people can do when they are let loose to create something really wild."
Its stems from the pen of Holden designer Richard Ferlazzo, who's been there ten years but always dreamed of creating this huge car, which is 5.2 metres long and two metres wide.
The Efijy's body is made of fibreglass atop a Chevrolet Corvette chassis, riding on air suspension that can be raised or lowered according to whim.
There's lots of billet aluminium including the wheels, highlights and the one-piece ornate grille that harks back to an early Holden FJ. Inside, the floor is made of maple, while there are alumimium flashes everywhere together with LEDs on the dash -- combined with Bakelite-style switches.
Motive power -- yes, it's even got an engine -- comes from a supercharged 6.0-litre LS2 V8 putting out a massive 644bhp and 572lb-ft of torque.
Holden said there are "absolutely no plans -- zero production intent" to build the Efijy.
