Remember when Honda took a Civic Type R and Jenson Button to Bathurst last year? It claimed a front-wheel drive lap record in the process; a job well done, for sure, even if any challengers would be somewhat limited by Mount Panorama being designated a public road for 50 weeks of the year...
Anyway, to belatedly mark the occasion - as well as Honda Australia's fondness for the iconiccircuit - it's created this: Mount Hondarama. It's off the back of Lego Masters in Australia, which has proved just as popular down under as it has in the UK, with the aim to 'showcase the unique world of Honda against the backdrop of Australia's greatest racetrack'. The star of LM Australia is Ryan 'The Brickman' McNaught, Australia's only Lego Certified Professional, so that's who Honda has teamed up with (McNaught having built a life size Lego Type R in 2019) for the Bathurst tribute.
In total Mount Hondarama used 150,000 Lego bricks, and took 650 hours for a team of eight builders to complete. It's 3.3 metres long, 1.8 metres wide and weighs 210kg. It even uses very rare Lego remote control cars for the full race effect. And, well, click on the video below - it looks brilliant.
Brickman said of Hondarama: "Our mantra is to grab people's attention with something obvious and then hold their attention with lots of special details and fun things. One of the great things about Lego bricks is that you can bring dreams to life and that's exactly what we've been able to do with all of Honda's products."
Which got us thinking - what else might be possible? PH can certainly claim some credit forgetting the Lego Caterham off the ground, so perhaps that could be the subject of a Lego Masters UK build. It could be placed on any circuit - Brands Hatch, for argument's sake - and called 'Seventh Heaven'. We'll give you that for free. Maybe it's just a daft idea, but it looks like we're going to have time on our hands for a while yet. Sillier things have happened...
