As special editions go, this HSV Clubsport isn't the most drastic you'll ever come across. But Australian Holdens aren't
long for this world
, which is rather a shame. Even Holden accompanies its press release with "own a part of Australian high performance history." There won't be a 30th anniversary car, so allow us just a sec to bid farewell to an Aussie icon.
More V8s need bore and stroke on them
The 6.2-litre LS3 remains, with 462hp, 420lb ft and "a sound that'll get your heart racing faster than anything playing on the nine-speaker Bose premium audio system." Super. A Tremec six-speed manual is standard, as are AP Racing brakes, HSV Performance Seats and a 'Hyperflow Rear Spoiler'.
The 25th anniversary badges can be found on the centre console, the boot and along the sills. Certainly not a transformation from the regular HSV Clubsport, and not quite the grand (supercharged) farewell we'd all like, but that's what HSV has produced and what 108 buyers will get. Anyone know the significance of that number? The price is 73,290 Australian dollars, or £35K at current exchange rates.
Lastly, for those HSV fanboys who aren't domiciled Down Under, the 25th anniversary can be marked in the UK. New VXR8s are less than £50K, there's a stunning Bathurst also available and, while it's not a HSV product, a 600hp ute is pretty cool. Happy HSV anniversary!
