... when an ordinary Challenger is too sober
Thanks to the manufacturer-led ‘muscle car revival’, Hurst has dusted off it’s Performance Vehicles brand and unveiled a new range of Hurst/Hemi Challengers, as well as a fab new website where you can get a glimpse of some vintage Hurst machinery in action.
The last Hurst Performance vehicle was a less-than-inspiring take on the 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass, and since then the company has concentrated on go-faster parts – notably the range of Hurst performance shifters.
However, the Hurst history books are packed with some of the icons of US hot-rodding and drag-racing, including the awesome Hurst Hemi Under Glass and the Hairy Oldsmobile, not to mention some revered road going special editions produced in league with the manufacturers like Oldsmobile.
The company says its 2009 Hurst/Hemi Challenger will be available through selected Dodge dealers in the US, with Series 1 to 4 versions offering a range of upgrades – the Series 4 being based on the Challenger SRT8 6.1 Hemi, while Series 1 to 3 get the 5.7 litre lump.
