So, what did happen to Invicta's S1 at Silverstone? According to a statement by Invicta, released last night, the car itself came out blameless and stood up well to the strong impact.
A spokesman for Invicta told us, "Whilst on track in the course of its duties, control of the S1 was lost and the car impacted with the track-side barriers. Despite the severity of the accident, the immense structural integrity of the Invicta ensured that both the passenger cabin and the fuel tank were entirely undamaged. "
More worryingly, he went on to say, "However, as the occupants were not wearing seatbelts, the driver was injured and was removed by ambulance to hospital where he was kept-in overnight for precautionary observations, and is now detained due to a fractured vertebra."
An inspection of the car was carried out at the track and there was no indication of mechanical failure.
