Alongside the best TV ratings that the F1 has had for seven years, Lewis Hamilton can also take the credit for an upturn in the UK motorsport industry’s fortune this year, according to the Motorsport Industry Association.
Despite not quite converting his impressive run of results into a championship title, the CEO of the MIA, Chris Aylett, hailed Hamilton’s ability to catch “the imagination of a new generation of young people throughout the UK.”
He added “Whilst track-day activity has grown over the past few years, we have been seeking more competitors to take up the real sport of motor racing – and Lewis Hamilton is just what we have been waiting for.”
With the added pressure from green campaigners threatening the sport we know and love, we salute Lewis too, for being the media-friendly excuse for burning copious amounts of super unleaded all in the name of sport.
