Can't afford a McLaren F1? Me neither. Sadly I can't afford one of these either, but that's also a good thing for all sorts of reasons. Not least because it's a kit car, which is often or never a good starting point depending on your point of view.
DDR Motorsport from Fort Lauderdale is responsible for this confection, and according to their website the ambition was to create a machine that "resembles the design of the European GT world endurance prototype cars". We don't speak American, but we think that translates as: "a car that looks as much like a McLaren F1 as is feasible when you start with an MR2..."
Actually that's not quite fair - you can also use your Corvette Z06 as a donor, which would at least ensure your DDR SP accelerates with something of the gusto of an endurance prototype.
Around £13k will get you a kit of parts including a tubular chassis and body, but you'll obviously need to write off your prized 'Vette before such a project would become viable. Still for an all-up cost (they say) of circa £35k, surely it's better than say (author scratches head for 'topical' car costing circa £35k), driving a Cygnet...
