A Mexican beer magnate has bought fledgling German sports car maker Artega.
Investment firm Tresalia capital, which was previously a minority shareholder in Artega, has now purchased 100 per cent of the company shares, including the 52 per cent previously owned by Artega's founder Klaus Dieter Frers.
The Mexican investment company is head up by Linda Alvarado, granddaughter of Grupo Modelo (the company that makes Corona) co-founder Felix Aramburuzabala and one of Mexico's most powerful businesswomen.
With the departure of Frers, Tresalia has parachuted in Wolfgang Ziebart to manage Artega. Ziebart is an ex-BMW engineer, and a former board member of Continental and chairman of Infineon.
The management changes won't affect the production of the mid-engined Artega GT, whose 300hp VW V6 (as seen in the Passat R36) makes it a would-be Cayman S rival.
The GT, which was designed by Henrik Fisker - the creator of the BMW Z8, Aston Martin Vantage and Fisker Karma - will continue trotting out of the company's facility in Delbruck, Germany, at a rate of 500 per year.
