Of the 1,045 cars listed in the ‘Ford Focus ST’ section on PistonHeads, more than 300 are diesel. Probably more than expected, right? So the news that Mountune has created its first ST diesel power kit, available from today, shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Comprised of an OBDII flashing cable, dongle, the ECU map and all-important Mountune badge, the m460D kit is claimed to boost power by 20hp and 37lb ft, for totals of 205hp and 332lb ft. The result of that is said to be an improvement in the 0-60mph sprint (7.4 seconds) and a drop in the 31-62mph time in fourth gear (or 50-100km/h) of half a second – now 6.4 seconds.
“The standard Focus ST diesel is a great base car, but with the m460D kit installed we’ve been able to make it smoother, quicker and generally even more fun to drive”, said Mountune’s Global Brand Manager David Moore.
Currently only offered for manual Focus ST diesels, the Mountune upgrade costs £429 for the DIY kit, or £350 if you take it to Mountune’s HQ in Brentwood (because they have the dongle and cable already there). You can even play on their Xbox while the work is being done. There’s no mention of warranty cover for the work, but early STs like this one will be out of the three-year Ford guarantee now, and the work is hardly intrusive. Diesel may not be flavour of the month at the moment, but just about as much torque as a Focus RS (with 50mpg) does sounds intriguing. It’s on sale from Mountune now!
