These are the first official pictures of a new 'electric Ford Mustang' from Sigma Motorworks.
Ok, so it doesn’t look like a 'Stang, but underneath this is pure American muscle car. Aside from the two 100 horsepower electric motors, that is, as the Sigma GTE uses Ford components and chassis. The GTE prototype’s interior has also been lifted directly from an old Mustang.
The motors power both axles, making the GTE
all-wheel-drive, and the car is capable of a claimed top speed of 145mph. Power is stored in lithium-ion batteries that should improve charge time, and return up to 100 miles of range.
Steve Kase, head of Sigma Motorworks development, believes the car will be one of the fastest electric cars in the world when it goes into production in 2010. Sigma hope to make and sell around 500 units per year.
