Frenchman's Cove on the Targa Newfoundland, 2004
|
Targa Newfoundland is the only event of its kind in North America. A week-long, 2,000-kilometre tarmac rally with 500km of closed, all-out stages, it has attracted teams from around the world. There's a new DVD out portraying last year's amazing event -- and an exclusive preview trailer for PHers -- see link below.
In 2004, one of the participating teams was 11th Hour Racing from New York. Packed tightly in a Hummer H2, a film crew led by Jon Ackerson joined the team and documented the adventure from home garage to the wilds of Canada's eastern island.
But the recently released DVD offers a lot more than just one team's odyssey. Once the merry band reaches what is affectionately called The Rock, the camera covers the wide angle: the people, places, thrills and spills that make up Targa Newfoundland. And for those who feel once is never enough - like many Targa participants - the 11th Hour crew has a sequel planned for the 2005 event.
