Nissan has finally confirmed details - and issued pictures - of the circuit-orientated GT-R SpecV limited production model that goes on sale in Japan on Feb 2
. The new model is being targeted specifically at ‘enthusiast drivers who desire race car-level performance in a street-legal vehicle’ the company says, as if we didn’t want this car enough already…
Pictures released in Tokyo today show the SpecV resplendent in its exclusive Ultimate Black Opal paint. Other new exterior features include a rear spoiler, grille and brake cooling ducts fashioned from carbon fibre, and the lightweight forged-alloy wheels that are already available for the GT-R via the NISMO options list.
Inside, the new SpecV loses its rear seats altogether, while the driver and front passenger get special Recaro carbon fibre buckets and a few carbon fibre trim embellishers dotted around the cabin.
Performance enhancements come in the form of improved mid-to-high range torque, re-tuned suspension settings and carbon ceramic brakes. The extra torque is released courtesy of a new high gear boost control device that momentarily increases the twin turbochargers’ boost pressure to provide what Nissan describes as ‘a more powerful feeling of acceleration’, while also allowing the engine to operate at lower speed for improved economy. There is also a titanium-coated exhaust system.
With reduced unsprung wheel weights, tweaked suspension and carbon brakes, we look forward to seeing how the SpecV upgrades affect the GT-R’s already formidable lap times – not to mention the on-road experience. The SpecV will cost nearly 16 million Yen in Japan, which is roughly £114,000 at today’s exchange rate. Ouch!
