Audi is wheeling out a new engine for its ‘S’ line-up – a 3.0-litre supercharged TFSI V6 which will sit in the nose of the new S4. The supercharger is understood to use a couple of four vane rotors and sits in the valley of the engine block.
The air is fed through a pair of intercoolers to the combustion chambers where a direct injection system provides the fuel. The S4 saloon and Avant will have 330bhp and 325lb ft of torque fed through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a new seven-speed S-Tronic dual clutch transmission.
0-60mph takes 5.1 seconds and top speed is limited to 155mph. The S4’s quattro system channels 40% of the torque to the front axle and 60% to the rear.
The car will debut at the Paris Motor Show next week.
