We need more roads. Preferably like this one
After taking their well-earned summer breaks, MPs have reconvened for conference season to share their latest revelations. Down in Brighton, the Lib Dems have slipped onto our radar thanks to the head of the RAC Foundation, Edmund King.
According to him, and who are we to argue, Britain needs more roads. He acknowledged that as the car is set to remain the transport of choice for commuters, business travellers and shoppers alike, we need more roads to prevent gridlock and to maintain the strength of the economy.
His comments were backed up by figures from the Foundation which showed that despite efforts to encourage the use of public transport, only those who already used the bus were likely to use the bus more, and that only 20% of Brits were regular bus users, while half had never used one.
Whilst there is the all-important green issue to be considered – PH hopes that the environment bandwagon that politicians are all jumping on is at least bio-fuelled – we reckon investing in a few new, traffic-free roads is a great idea.
