Husqvarna supplied the Swedish army with all its rifles, but that was back in the 17th century before off-road motorcycle racing had been invented. Rather more recently, the company has been famous for making successful and very cool motocross and enduro bikes, particularly in the 1970s. Husqvarna was sold to Cagiva and eventually became part of MV Agusta but since 2007 has been solely owned by BMW.
What you are looking at is a 'spy' shot (kindly provided by Husqvarna's press office) of the first road-going Husky (from BMW - thanks PHers! Ed.). It's powered by the same parallel twin engine that's fitted to BMW's F800 though for the Husky it'll have a different cubic capacity - around 900cc - and will be tuned for around 100bhp. You can see from the shots that the bike has supermoto styling not unlike the Ducati Hypermotard. However, Husqvarna insiders say that the bike will be aimed at everyday use and will come with decent wind protection and the option of hard luggage.
Husqvarna has five road bikes in development, all of which we'll see over the next five years.
