We don’t mean to come across as complete Porschephiles today (well, maybe a little) but we’ve spent the morning looking at this microsite presenting the new 911 GT2.
911 GT2 will cost £131,070
The 911 GT2 is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show as Porsche’s fastest, most powerful and most expensive series production 911 ever. When you log on to http://www.porsche.com/microsite/911gt2/uk.aspx?specialguest=1, you’re presented with a dark, dramatic and somewhat overproduced video featuring the GT2 and a deep burly voice. There’s then opportunity to spec up your own 911 GT2.
‘Respect required’, says the site. If the last generation GT2 is anything to go by, Porsche is spot on. The 996 GT2 was re-christened ‘the widow-maker’ after its insatiable appetite for attempting to kill its drivers. The vicious speeds, rear weight bias and rear-wheel drive set-up meant that owners suffered frequent and uncontrollable off-road excursions. Today, you’ll probably have more luck finding an example on www.wreckedexotics.com than searching through any classifieds.
This latest 997 iteration appears to fit the brief again.

It remains rear-wheel drive and uses a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre engine producing 530bhp, making it the most powerful road-licensed 911 ever. It will also be the first 911 road car to ever feature launch control, known as Launch Assistant, which will cut the 0-62mph dash to just 3.7secs. Less than one car per UK dealership will be allocated when the car goes on sale in November.
