Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport - top level teams with some of the best racing drivers competing at challenging race tracks around the world. Minardi's final entry in the world of F1 was the 2005 Chinese GP, the two PS04Bs having since been used as exhibition and demonstrator cars since.
Rob, our OP, acquired both cars in January 2016 and underwent the massive task of prepping these cars for racing. Everything was stripped back to component form where all parts could be measured, inspected, tested and replaced if needed. After weeks of preparation, the car was ready mechanically for a season of BOSS (Big Open Single Seaters) GP. The series combines F1 cars running glorious V10s, GP2s with V8s, World Series Renault and F3000 race cars, with 12 races in a season a six historic motorsport circuits.
Testing at Anglesey was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions so round one of the series was very much a learning exercise; the team were finally rewarded them with a P4 after gearbox issues and plenty of oversteer at low speeds. Championship points started flooding in after that and a championship second place was in sight at the final race at Imola. We won't spoil the ending here, but the Minardi family was in attendance to make it extra special for the entire team.
Congratulations to Mr poppopbangbang then, your Minardi PS04B is our Reader's Car of the Week and we can't wait to hear about your exploits during 2017.
