On PH, we have a soft spot for Skoda having run both an
Octavia vRS
Superb Estate 280
. So when PHer 'micloi' decided that his standard Superb 280 4x4 family car wasn't enough for him, and that he was going to build a sleeper Superb, our interest was piqued...
The idea wasn't to alter the suspension too much, make it too ostentatious or compromise on reliability. Starting with a simple tuning box and larger intake hose increased power to 323hp and 301lb ft, giving the mid range more punch. But unfortunately it caused a rough idle, so it was returned.
The second box increased the power further to 340hp whilst a third tuning box that allowed for multiple variables to be adjusted and added an extra 5hp. But that still wasn't enough. Time for Stage 2, which included an intercooler, a downpipe with sport cat and further tweaks to the tuning box that allowed boost to be tweaked. Then came Stage 3...
That included a new turbo set-up, colder spark plugs, plus remaps for both the ECU and DSG gearbox, bringing the Superb up to 460hp; that's was enough for a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds. Next was a custom cat-back exhaust for more power whilst keeping the noise levels down. Remember, this is still ostensibly a family car...
With the added power better brakes were fitted to keep the Superb in check, the engine mounts were upgraded and an uprated clutch pack was fitted to give the DSG a fighting chance. A set of Team Dynamics wheels were also fitted to give a little hint that something is different with this car.
This still wasn't enough for micloi, as he has gone ahead with a fully forged engine that is tuned to 560hp (at the moment restricted to 500 for road use). There is still more to come and we look forward to reading more on this build. Congratulations micloi, your sleeper Skoda Superb is our Reader's Car Of the Week. Read the full thread here.
