September 1st will see the new format of registrations come in to play in the
UK. It's also the date on which the regulations regarding fonts used on number
plates get tightened up.
From 1 September 2001 all new
number plates must display the new mandatory font. The size of the
characters on number plates is also changing. Existing number plates won't need
to be changed provided the font used is 'substantially the same' as the
new font.
