Could C-Charge be spreading even further?
Ken Livingstone is secretly planning to extend congestion charging if he is re-elected as mayor, it has been reported.
It is understood the mayor is keeping plans under wraps in case he loses votes in outer London boroughs.
The Times newspaper reports that Transport for London is developing plans to introduce charging in other congested areas in the capital but has been instructed not to say anything until after polling day.
TfL has reportedly announced that it has rejected Porsche’s claim that Mr Livingstone would exceed his powers by introducing a £25 Congestion Charge.
Meanwhile it is claimed that Britain’s road network is growing 15 times faster than the rail network.
The Times says it has seen figures that undermine the Government’s commitment to getting people out of cars and on to public transport.
The figures are understood to show that more than 405 miles of motorway and trunk road have opened since 1997 compared with just 27 miles of railway.
