Rinspeed is one of those companies that will do everything in its power to be different. That’s why we are a little disappointed it couldn’t resist using the de rigueur ‘i’ prefix for its latest bonkers concept.
No matter, the iChange is still mad enough to carry the Rinspeed name because its party piece is altering its shape to suit the number of passengers. It starts off as a single seater for best aerodynamics but can change shape to carry two more passengers if needed.
The back of the car pops up to create more space and only temporarily creates more drag. It has no doors and the roof will rise completely to allow access. Unsurprisingly what with this being a ‘futuristic’ concept it is ‘electric’, as that is so 2009.
It is powered by lithium-ion batteries that are available in two different configurations for different length journeys. What doesn’t make sense is why it sounds like a diesel around two minutes into the video.
We can only assume that this is the tracking car, or Rinspeed really has lost the plot. The electric motor produces 201hp, and the car has a top speed of 131mph and a 0-60mph sprint of four seconds.
This power is put down through a Subaru Impreza WRX gearbox apparently. Whatever next..?
