Mark the day, because at noon the Rolls-Royce lineup grew by one. Any addition to its prestigious range is noteworthy of course, but it's especially significant in this case because midday saw the launch of the Cullinan - the firm's long-awaited and much trailed SUV.
Not that Rolls calls it that - as far as they're concerned, it's merely a 'high-sided vehicle' - but as it's also four-wheel-drive and built to be off-road capable, the familiar description feels like a fairly accurate one. If the thought of seeing the Spirit of Ectasy traversing ditches has you clawing at your face, we'd recommend not tuning into the video below, as the brand makes much of this being the first go-anywhere Roller.
For everyone else the launch has confirmed much we already knew - and thrown in a whole heft of new details. Naturally it will be beyond pleasant inside, and is known to boast some notable innovations, such as pop-out rear seats for the tailgate. Don't expect it to be slow either, with the 187mph Bentley Bentayga considered its closest rival.
It is a fundamental step into the unknown for Rolls, though, and probably deserving of the razzmatazz - not least because Goodwood expects it to become its biggest selling model. The Cullinan is due to join the Ghost, Wraith, Dawn and Phantom in showrooms later this year.
