Roush has released a set of performance packages for the 2010 Ford Mustang.
The American tuning house has been making performance packages for Mustangs for a while, but this is the most extensive yet. There are three stages available for the coupe and convertible 'stangs, with a mix of aesthetic and mechanical modifications.
A Mustang with the stage one conversion (around £24,263 for the coupe in the US) gets you the a restyled front fascia and splitter, a one-piece rear fascia, side splitters and a three-piece rear wing, along with 18-inch cast chrome wheels on uprated rubber.
A stage two conversion (£25,216) adds a suspension package and upgraded brakes, but it's not until you get to the full stage three conversion that the car earns the moniker '427R'.
A bespoke supercharger that they're wittily calling a 'ROUSHCharger' along with a better intercooler whacks the power of the 4.6-litre V8 up from 315bhp to 435bhp, with 400 lb ft of torque for your sensible deployment.
The 427R also gets some styling mods under the bonnet, designed to give a neat OEM appearance, with better quality hoses and general materials, and clearer demarcation of parts and clamp locations - a lot of attention to detail, which they've sadly not showed in pictures yet.
Interestingly, Roush also boasts some more practical measures that would not normally be expected from what is essentially a performance and styling package. They estimate 22-23mpg under normal driving conditions, along with a 40-50% reduction in CO2 emissions.
With similarly vague detail, we're told to expect a low-four second 0-60 time and a standing quarter in the mid-twelve second region. It all sounds very exciting, and in the US it still only works out at £29,982 for the coupe version. But there's no word yet on UK availability, and if it does come here we can probably expect the traditional transatlantic price hike...
