Okay, the 4:30am start was a struggle. But heading to Santa Pod for our Sunday Service with some drag racing thrown in for good measure was well worth the sleep deprivation; a thought quite clearly shared by many others, too! A little rain on the journey in had me fearing the disaster of a closed drag strip but the weather was on our side and we actually had some sun! At Santa Pod! Madness.
An eclectic mix of cars turned up, additional fun coming from seeing some very unexpected cars heading up the strip. We had everything from an ex-military 1954 Daimler Ferret to a McLaren 675LT, and everything in between, including a Pembleton three-wheeler, Corvette Stingray, Ultima GTR, Zenos E10R and a bonkers tuned Skoda Octavia and Audi S4 with anti-lag that sounded like shots being fired every time it ran. A favourite was the immaculate BMW E30 M3, which was absolutely gorgeous.
Some of the races were a sight to behold with some fantastic mix-ups and head to heads. The ultimate drag race had to be the two bubble cars which were, unfortunately, a little too slow to post a time, but was no less fun! The Mercedes-AMG E63 S we brought along was an absolute monster and was third fastest of the day, surprising many PHers. Others drag racing included a couple of Noble M12s, an amazing sounding Porsche GT3 and a couple of Datsun 240Zs. Even 'our' Skoda Superb 280 long termer posted a pretty respectable time of 13.9 seconds (once I figured out the launch control...) with its roof box still attached!
All in all, a very successful day with lots of track action and lovely metal to look at. I'd like to send a huge thank you to Santa Pod for having us and providing us with discounted race vouchers, and to their marshals for doing a great job and keeping everyone safe. A massive thanks to all of the PHers that attended, too, it was great to chat to some of you as always. If you have any photos or videos feel free to share them
