The SEAT Ibiza Cupra R developed and built jointly by SEAT S.A. and SEAT
Sport is now on sale in the UK. If you want one though, you'll need to be quick
as only 75 of the 200 Ibiza Cupra R’s scheduled for production are destined
for Britain.
Equipped with 180 bhp 1.8 20VT engine coupled to a 5-speed gearbox the 3-door
Ibiza Cupra R accelerates from 0-62 mph in 7.2 seconds and enjoys a top speed of
140 mph. It's also got a a specially tuned note from the twin chrome exhaust
tailpipe. As the Ibiza Cupra’s Big Brother, the R boasts a 10 per cent stiffer
suspension with a new spring-damper assembly, body lowered by 7 mm and the track
widened by 6 mm. The brakes are 305 mm diameter air-cooled discs with 4 piston
Brembo callipers on the front axle and ample 232 mm discs on the rear. The
wheels are specially customised SEAT Sport 0.Z Racing 7J x 16" competition
alloys fitted with Pirelli tyres. It's available in just three colours, Ovni
yellow, Ebony black and Flash red, complete with tinted windows, honeycomb front
grille, body coloured bumper mouldings and the distinctive red letter R (for
Racing) badging.
The Ibiza Cupra R’s £17,990 on the road price includes 3 years/60,000
miles warranty, 3 years’ road side assistance, VAT, delivery, 12 months road
tax and first registration fee.
