Our final Sunday Service of the year took place yesterday at the famous (and rather chilly) Thruxton Circuit, where members descended on the old RAF air base for skids, bacon, car spotting and a good old fashioned natter, all in the name of charity - more specifically, Mission Motorsport.
As it turns out, early December isn't the best time for an outdoor event. However, we seem to always get lucky (touch wood) with our final Sunday Services of the year; we had a short downpour, but it was soon replaced by sunshine, which helped the mucky cars in attendance do their best to gleam through the salty grime that coated most of them. Speaking of cars, we had plenty of them! The PH Fleet was looking as strong as it's ever been with a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, McLaren 600LT Spider and Megane RS Trophy (which was probably the most enjoyable of the three in this weather!). PHers most certainly brought the goods, too, with a couple of Mk4 Toyota Supras, a Ferrari 575, an Ariel Nomad driven by a very brave man, a Camaro ZL1 driven by another brave man, a handful of lovely McLarens and, my personal favourite, a baby blue 1974 VW Camper, to name a few.
Away from the car park was, of course, the skid pan, where members paid £10 for a few laps with all proceeds going to the great team over at Mission Motorsport, whose mission it is to help those effected by military operations by engagement through motorsport. Those who took part thoroughly enjoyed it, with cars ranging from the humble Mazda MX-5, to the rather more civilised (and understeer prone!) Aston Martin DB11. For those that forgot to bring cash, or spent it all on coffee to keep themselves warm, you can still donate to Mission Motorsport here.
For those that didn't get on the skid pan yesterday, or if you simply want more of it, Thruxton currently have a special offer for a 60-minute session in your own car for £89 - see here for more details and how to book.
We also had a raffle on the day with some fantastic prizes up for grabs. Thruxton kindly donated a Jaguar F-Type Trio experience - you start off in the 2.0 four-cylinder F-Type, move up to the V6, then finally tackle the V8 SVR. They also donated a 60-minute one-to-one tuition session on their skid pan as second prize, and we will be putting together PH merchandise goodie bag for 3rd place. So without further ado, our first place winner is... number 124! Second place is number 172, and third place is number 82. Congratulations! I'll be giving you a call at some point today, so keep an eye out on your phone.
We'd like to send a huge thank you to both Mission Motorsport and Thruxton Circuit, without whom we would not have had such an enjoyable day. It fantastic to visit such a historical circuit, and to help raise money for a worthy cause. Thank you to everyone who came along, and to those who donated, bought raffle tickets and slung their car around the pan of many skids.
Merry Christmas - we'll see you next year!
