It’s December already? How did that happen? The passage of time, obviously, but this year has been so jam-packed that the months have flown by. Our first meeting of the year at Mercedes-Benz World was all the way back in March, and since then we’ve visited The Motorist, Silverstone and held our first (sort of) Annual Service at Bicester Heritage. To bring this busy year to a close, we headed to Thruxton for what would be our final Sunday Service of 2024.
Thruxton has played host to our ‘season finale’ for several years now, with our previous two visits falling right in the middle of an arctic weather bomb. And while that wouldn’t be the case this year, it did chuck it down for much of the morning. Fortunately, hundreds of PHers braved the (really quite grim) conditions to join us for a spot of breakfast and a coffee.
And what a marvellous turnout it was. The Japanese side of the car industry was well represented with a quartet of FL5 Honda Civic Type Rs, a four-door, GC8 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type RA and a Mitsubishi Evo 6 in a Tommi Makinen style livery, only yellow and white instead of red. We were treated to a gaggle of red 911 GTs - one from each generation, naturally.
A special mention to the gentleman in the Jaguar X-Type decked in the XJ220 Le Mans colours - you almost had us fooled - the sublime Pininfarina-designed Peugeot 504, the incredibly mean Chevrolet Camaro and to the owner of the small plane that had been flipped on its roof by the recent storms.
A big thank you to Mission Motorsport for running the hugely popular skid pan. Not only is it arguably the most fun you can have behind the wheel, but all the proceeds from tickets sold go straight to MM, allowing them to do what they do best. The same goes for anyone who booked a spot on the track walk. It’s always special to get up close with a circuit we all know and love, even if the weather was a bit miserable. On that note, MM is on the lookout for a new managing director: if you fancy getting involved with a fantastic organisation, apply here.
Of course, there’s still plenty to discuss (favourite cars on show, how many times you spun on the skid pan, the ten-out-of-ten breakfast, etc), and you join the conversation by heading over to our Thruxton Sunday Service topic here. As for our next outing, we’ll have news about January’s Sunday Service in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for more details. In the meantime, thank you to all who came to one of our events in 2024, have a wonderful New Year and see you in January!
