Since the early 1900s diesel has powered pretty much any engine from submarines, ships, trains, tanks, tractors and trucks. Then in the 1930s, diesel found its way into cars and it has been that way ever since. Not normally seen in endurance motorsport, Audi fielded the Audi R10 TDI which went on to win the Sebring 12 hours and the Le Mans 24 Hours multiple times.
Then Dieselgate struck. Reports have been released stating cities are failing annual air pollution limits due in a big part to diesel-engined vehicles. The question a concerned PHer is asking is whether or not a diesel car he leases or buys now will become unsellable in five years time due to Government legislation?
It may be the case that diesel cars are not allowed into major cities at specific times or add a surcharge to diesel as a preventative measure. Or maybe it'll go as far as banning diesel cars entirely, much like what Paris, Athens, Madrid and Mexico city intend on doing by 2025.
