Turner Automotive Design (TAD) is conducting a feasibility exercise into a roofed version of its hard-core track day special, the LMP. In concert with designer Zsolt Tarnok, whom TAD founder Steve Turner described as “a Hungarian guy with a big future”, TAD’s feasibility study will look at production viability of the car.
Turner said that, if it went into production, it would use most of the LMP chassis and aluminium tub with additions for the screen and doors. Retaining the same dimensions as the LMP externally, Turner said "the geometry would have to be tweaked as the weight distribution would change quite a bit, and we'd definitely need to get this one into a wind tunnel."
On price, Turner said that it would need to be priced close to the Lotus Exige Cup, which sells for about £45,000. That's because, said Turner, "it would be built with traditional (and therefore expensive) methods while using the best motorsport components as standard (where durability allows)."
Specification has yet to be determined -- this is just a feasibility study, not a production model, remember -- but could include:
- Fully aero-developed CF bodywork, splitters (easily adjustable for height), diffusers, floors, etc.
- Polycarbonate side and rear windows to keep weight and complexity low (a bit like the Ferrari Challenge cars with slide-open vents)
- Minimum 350bhp, 300lb/ft
- Electronically controlled spring/damper units to raise and lower ride height from the cockpit
- Full road-legal package, including LED light units (to save weight and add reliability)
- Large glass area cabin to maximise sightlines
Sounds perfectly feasible to us and looks good. What do you think?
